Since prehistoric times – as evidenced by the finds preserved at the Archaeological Museum of Parma – mushrooms have been part of the diet of the Terramare people.

Mushrooms were known for their organoleptic characteristics already in ancient Rome.
The Porcino of Borgotaro also boasts a glorious fame in the kitchen, appreciated by the Farnese dukes – in 1606.
