The Museum of Parmigiano Reggiano, the prestigious Italian cheese, known and appreciated all over the world, which boasts ancient origins, is located in the historic 19th-century Casello that stands in the shadow of the Meli-Lupi Fortress in Soragna in an area rich in castles and memories of Verdi, along the Strada del Culatello.
Corte Castellazzi, home of the Parmigiano Reggiano Museum, consists of the farmhouse with stable and hayloft and the precious circular-shaped cheese factory with colonnade, erected by Prince Casimiro Meli-Lupi around 1848 and active until 1977, where the tools and utensils used in the processing of the King of Cheeses are on display.
More than 120 objects dating from the 1800s to the first half of the 20th century and a hundred images, drawings and period photos illustrate, inside a building used for centuries for cheese production, the evolution of milk processing techniques, the stages of maturing and marketing, and the fundamental role of the Consorzio del Parmigiano Reggiano in protecting quality.
