The Fortress of Valle di Castrignano: History, Architecture and Tourism
The Rocca di Valle di Castrignano, also known as Corte Campelli, is a charming fortified court located in the hamlet of Valle di Castrignano, within the municipality of Langhirano, in the province of Parma. This historical complex dates back to the late Middle Ages and is an important example of fortified rural architecture in the Parma Apennines.

A Dive into History
The origins of the Rocca date back to the late 14th and early 15th centuries, when the first defensive towers were built. This structure served to protect one of the branches of the Via Francigena, an ancient pilgrimage route connecting northern Italy with Rome.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, the fortress was transformed by the Cavatorta family, who expanded the complex by adding buildings for residential and agricultural use. Later, in the 20th century, it passed to the Campelli family, who converted it into a farm specialising in the production of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

In 2010, the Rocca was declared a protected property by the Italian State for its historical and architectural value and became part of the circuit of the Castles of the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Pontremoli.

Architecture of the Fortress
The complex consists of several structures:

Four medieval towers, some with a square base, others rectangular, with small windows and strong walls.
18th-century buildings, including a manor house with an elegant loggia.
Inner courtyard, once the centre of agricultural and productive life of the feud.
The 18th-century manor house features a loggia with round arches supported by imposing Doric pillars, typical of the architectural style of the period.

Tourism and Visits
Today, the Rocca is an ideal tourist destination for those who love history and culture. Being part of the Duchy's Castles Circuit, it offers guided tours by appointment and cultural experiences linked to local traditions.
