The "Giuseppe Riccardi" Museum of Rural Life, located in Zibello, a hamlet of the municipality of Polesine Zibello in the province of Parma, is a living testimony to the agricultural and rural tradition of the area. Founded in 1985 inside the Dominican convent, the building that houses the museum has a history that dates back to 1494. This place, which has seen transformations over the centuries from a monastery to a hospital and finally to a school, today preserves a rich collection of objects related to rural life.
The museum is divided into various sections that tell the story of daily life and work in the fields. Among the exhibition spaces we find the "Kitchen" section, with traditional utensils used in rural kitchens, the "Porta morta", which recreates the environment of rural houses, and a large collection of agricultural and artisanal tools, which illustrate the daily activities of the inhabitants of the area. Furthermore, an interesting section is dedicated to the Cellar, which recreates the environment dedicated to the production and conservation of wine.
One of the most unique attractions is a typical Po Valley boat, handcrafted right in Zibello, which testifies to the historical importance of rivers in the life of the community. The museum also houses archaeological finds, including coins from different eras, found on the banks of the Po River and in the surrounding countryside.
A visit to the Museo della Civiltà Contadina is an opportunity to immerse yourself in Zibello's rural past and understand the traditions and agricultural practices that have shaped this corner of Emilia-Romagna.
