In the historic center of Parma, precisely in via Macedonio Melloni 4, there is one of the most elegant and representative buildings of the city: the Palazzo delle Poste. Built at the beginning of the twentieth century and designed by the architect Moderanno Chiavelli, this Art Nouveau building is an excellent example of decorative and functional architecture.

A bit of history
The palace was built between 1905 and 1909 on an area once occupied by the Teatro Ducale, demolished in the nineteenth century. The new building was designed to house the postal and telegraph functions, quickly becoming a point of reference for the city.

The façade, rich in ornamental details, features floral and classical motifs, while the interior is characterized by a large hall with a glass roof that naturally illuminates the rooms. Local artists such as Baratta, Marini and Marzaroli contributed to the decorations, enriching the building with frescoes and stuccos.

Today: a living and multifunctional building
Parma's Palazzo delle Poste is not only a historic place, but also a space that is still alive and active today. Inside it are:

The Central Post Office, which continues to offer postal services to the public;

The historic Società Parmense di Lettura e Conversazione, founded in 1858;

The Glauco Lombardi Museum, which houses precious relics related to Maria Luigia of Austria and Napoleonic history;
