The construction of the Baptistery of Parma started in 1196 and ended in 1270.
The original project was defined by Benedetto Antelami who began the decorations in 1196 (see inscriptions on the portal).
The exterior is made of pink marble, with octagonal shape, which meant eternity.
The interior is made up of 16 arches that make up niches; in every niche there is a painted scene. All these frescoes and paintings are dated thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
The style of the Baptistery is Romanesque.
