A Little Shop That Became a Parma Institution
The story begins in 1985, when Maurizio and Isabella, both in their early twenties, bought a small two-window shop in Parma's Oltretorrente district.
Its name was already Casa del Formaggio.
What began as a small neighbourhood shop gradually grew, but its passion for carefully selected food remained at the centre of everything.
A Journey Through Around 100 Cheeses
Cheese is naturally the great protagonist.
Casa del Formaggio offers an impressive selection, with around 100 different cheeses normally available.
Italy is well represented, but the journey extends to France, Switzerland, England and other great European cheese-making regions.
A visit to the counter can therefore become a miniature journey through Europe.
Parmigiano Reggiano and the Flavours of Parma
Despite its international selection, Parma remains the starting point.
Parmigiano Reggiano PDO holds a special place, alongside carefully selected cured meats and local products.
The shop allows visitors to discover how ageing, milk, production area and craftsmanship can create remarkably different flavours.
Handmade Fresh Pasta
In 1995, Casa del Formaggio created its own kitchen and began producing prepared dishes and fresh pasta.
Traditional family recipes still inspire its production today.
Fresh pasta is handmade daily, bringing the flavours of Parma's home cooking into the shop.
It is the world of filled pasta, family recipes and dishes that evoke the warmth of Sunday lunch.
From Food Shop to Bistro
Casa del Formaggio continued to evolve.
After expanding in 1989 and opening its internal kitchen in 1995, a dedicated area for orders and shipping was created in 2019.
In September 2024, the shop underwent a major renovation that also introduced a bistro area.
The result is a contemporary space that still preserves the character of an old-fashioned gourmet shop.
Parma Meets the World
The shelves also offer wines, Champagne, spirits and artisan specialities, while the online store and international express shipping allow the shop's products to travel far beyond Parma.
Yet perhaps the best way to discover Casa del Formaggio is still the simplest.
