A Winery Founded in 1983

The story of Monte delle Vigne began in 1983 with approximately 7 hectares of vineyards and a small winery.

From the beginning, the project focused on expressing the character of the Parma Hills, particularly through local varieties such as Barbera and Malvasia di Candia Aromatica.

An important stage in the winery's development came in the early 2000s with the involvement of Paolo Pizzarotti, owner of the neighbouring estate.

New vineyards were planted and by the end of 2009 the vineyard area had grown to approximately 40 hectares.

A Modern Underground Winery

In 2006, Monte delle Vigne inaugurated a new underground winery surrounded by its vineyards.

The building was designed to benefit from naturally stable temperatures and incorporates technologies including geothermal energy and rainwater recovery for irrigation.

This approach reflects the estate's philosophy of combining modern winemaking technology with respect for the surrounding environment.

Organic Wines from the Parma Hills

Monte delle Vigne began its transition towards certified organic viticulture in 2016.

The process reached an important milestone in 2021, when the entire harvest became organic and ICEA certified.

The vineyards include several grape varieties, such as:

• Malvasia di Candia Aromatica;

• Barbera;

• Lambrusco Maestri;

• Cabernet Franc;

• Merlot;

Nabucco – An Iconic Red Wine

Nabucco is one of the wines that best represents Monte delle Vigne.

First produced with the 1992 harvest, it marked an important change for a territory traditionally associated mainly with sparkling wines.

Barbera plays the leading role, together with Merlot, creating a structured and elegant still red wine capable of developing further complexity with ageing.

Its name is also a tribute to Giuseppe Verdi's famous opera, creating a connection between Parma's wine culture and its extraordinary musical heritage.

Callas and Malvasia di Candia Aromatica

Another iconic wine is Callas, first produced in 1999.

Made from Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, one of the most distinctive grape varieties of the Parma Hills, Callas expresses the aromatic character, freshness and minerality of this local grape.

Its name pays tribute to Maria Callas, continuing the relationship between wine and music that can be found throughout the identity of the estate.
