Ghirardi Oasis: Nature and Wildlife in the Taro Valley

The Ghirardi WWF Oasis is a protected natural area located in the Upper Taro Valley, between Borgo Val di Taro and Albareto, in the Parma Apennines.

The reserve is characterised by a beautiful combination of woodlands, meadows, streams, rocky areas and traditional mountain landscapes. This variety of habitats supports remarkable biodiversity, making the oasis an interesting destination for nature lovers, hikers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Visitors can discover a rich natural environment inhabited by deer, roe deer, wild boar and numerous species of birds, butterflies, reptiles and insects. The forests and open meadows are also home to many species of wild plants and orchids.

More than 15 kilometres of marked trails allow visitors to explore the reserve on foot and experience the peaceful atmosphere of the Taro Valley countryside. The oasis can be visited freely throughout the year, while the Visitor Centre has specific opening times.
