The National Gallery has a collection of about 700 works, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, from Benedetto Antelami, Correggio, Parmigianino, Leonardo Da Vinci, Beato Angelico, El Greco, Canaletto up to Renato Guttuso.

From 1986 the Farnese Theater is the entrance to the National Gallery and it offers a unique spectacle in the world. It was built in 1617 according to the will of the Duke Ranuccio I Farnese. It was destroyed by bombs in May 1944 and  it was rebuilt between 1956 and 1965, respecting the original theater.
